An employment tribunal decided against
the club for refusing to employ Maria
Grant because of her gender. She applied
for the position of assistant secretary
and development co-ordinator but did not
even get shortlisted, despite having a
masters degree.
The tribunal held that
she had been discriminated against
because the club had used subjective
criteria when picking the candidates.
LCCC admitted that her gender went
against her because members would not
want a woman to chair meetings.
Miss Grant was awarded £15,000
compensation.
